Founded in 2013 by Chris and Shanelle Montana as the first Black-owned microdistillery in the US to distill its own products, using grain grown on Shanelle's family farm; renamed Du Nord Social Spirits in 2020 after a rebrand prompted in part by a fire during the unrest following George Floyd's murder.
