Description

Traces to McDowell & Company, founded in 1826 in Madras (now Chennai) by Scottish businessman Angus McDowell; the modern United Spirits Limited (USL) was formed in 2006 through the consolidation of McDowell's with several other Indian liquor firms. Majority-owned by Diageo since 2014, USL is India's largest spirits company by volume, producing McDowell's No.1 and distributing Diageo's Johnnie Walker, Black Dog, VAT 69, and Black & White in India.
