George Washington's original commercial distillery, built in 1797 at the urging of his Scottish farm manager James Anderson; by 1799 it was the largest whiskey distillery in America, producing nearly 11,000 gallons a year. Reconstructed on the original archaeological footprint and reopened to visitors in 2007, it remains a fully functioning working distillery.
